Blog Post: New to Tampa Bay? Looking for an HR Job? Inquiring about networking opportunities?
posted Saturday, July 12, 2008 12:21 PM
Quick, easy answer; check out the local human resources chapters!
Tampa Bay is fortunate to have many active local chapters, check out the videos of two of those chapters. Suncoast Human Resource Management Association, and HR Plant City. Here are a few additional suggestions to consider; 1. Were you an active member of your past hr chapter? If so; have that chapter president write a letter of introduction outlining your involvement. Great way to break the ice and dispel the perception that you are yet another individual using the chapter to get a job and move on. 2. Are you an SHRM member in good standing? If not; research the local hr chapters that are 100% chapters and limit guests visits. Do not waste your resources until you are able to join SHRM. 3. Have you visited our state council website; www.hrflorida.org This website will also be a valuable resource into the world of Florida human resources. 4. Have you considered industry specific professional associations as an additional networking opportunity? These associations have the potential to provide a wealth of information. Check out our community partners page for additional industry specific associations in Tampa Bay. 5. Have you watched our community Jobing Videos focused on answering any question a Job Seeker may have? For example; dress for success, questions to ask during an interview, what questions can an interviewer ask a candidate legally? 6. Are you a current resident of the Tampa Bay area? If not; be aware that you might not be considered until you have a local address. 7. Is your information and current resume in our data base? Is your contact information local and correct? Have you registered for Jobs by email? The suggestions above are worth considering no matter what industry you are in and whether or not you are new to the area. Good Luck Job Seekers, keep us informed of your progress and Go Jobing!
