Using a cover letter is a great way to provide context for your resume submission. If you have provided a good cover letter – an employer will be able to tell; why you have applied for the job, what job you are applying for, how to get in touch with you and may be a little curious to learn more about you.

Three Elements of a Good Cover Letter:

1. If you can, find out the hiring manager’s current title and spelling of their name – and use it (this shows diligence and respect).
2. Make sure your preferred contact method (the best way to contact you quickly) is listed in your cover letter (either at the top or in the body of the letter).
3. It is brief. It provides information that introduces you, your candidacy for the position, and your resume, without repeating your resume.
