Blog Post: Expanding your job search

So, you are looking for a job (I guess, since you are on a job board that's a give away!). What else are you doing to search for employment? You are no doubt looking on other job boards, google, job aggregators, networking, job fairs, etc, etc, etc. Looking for a job is a full time job these days. There is a lot of talk about social media as an avenue for job searching.

What do I believe are the best methods for social media job searching: I am glad you asked!

Twitter, which is all the rage (or haven't you heard) and LinkedIn (if you are not on, you should!) are two popular resources you can use to help you find a job. Here are a few quick tips about the Why & How you can use these sites to aid in your job search.

When using Twitter, utilize their search feature to get you started. There is a field titled "this hashtag" where you can search by keywords most job postings are "tagged" with. Conducting searches with the following keywords in your geographic region will help you narrow your search (though you do not want to be too narrow):

• jobs
• employment
• hiring
• any other employment/job/hiring phrase you can think of

Oh, you do not need to be a "Twitterer" or know anything about Twitter to do this!

LinkedIn allows you to create an online resume/profile about yourself and connect with people in your network or extended network. Here is the best part of LinkedIn, you can search people by company, title, etc and learn about them before you ever contact them or they contact you. You can scope out the organization & person and determine if this is a place you want to work.
