Blog Post: Kevin Bacon Can You Hear ME?

posted Monday, October 22, 2007 11:23 PM

Listen, I don't care when you were born. Kevin Bacon is one of the most recognized names and faces in Hollywood . He's a major player who, I'm sure, is bombarded with requests for appearances and acting gigs all the time. But, he's also the founder of a charitable initiative called Six Degrees. Basically the concept of the organization is that we all are just six relationships away from anyone in the world--which means that by connecting with right people, postive change can happen in heartbeat.

So, why am I rambling about Mr. Bacon?

Well, call this my own freaky little science experiment, but I believe that the internet (and social networks) have reduced the number of degrees separating any two people. Take this blog for example, how many people will read it compared to the old way of networking (as much as I'd love the chance to crawl out of your screen and shake the hand of job seeker and employer who hops onto the Jobing.com web site, I'd be consumed in conversation for the net couple of years with ya'll).

So, here's my point. Is it possible that social networking can allow me to connect with Kevin Bacon? And, if it is possible, does that mean that you, the job seeker, could virtually connect with the person who might lead you to the job of your dreams. Or, could you the Employer find that perfect match out there that will initiate innovation for your company?

And, for you Mr. Bacon, surrounded by talent agents, is it possible that because of my little science project, we may initiate some positive change in the world around us--simply by connecting the right people?

Hey, let's face it. There's nothing more powerful than passionate people connecting for a greater good. People move companies. Companies move communities. Communities impact cultures. And, cultures can change the world.

Mr. Bacon, I'm attempting to prove a powerful point about networking--that technology has made it easier to initiate change.

And, this little science experiment is a far cry from my seventh-grade science class when I thought great things could happen from connecting a battery charger to my braces. This time, I'm looking to spark the minds of connectivity.

Kevin Bacon Can You Hear Me? Let's prove the power of connection.
