Blog Post: Get outside and make some new contacts

Too often I talk with people asking tons of questions about where the jobs are, they're revising their resume 500 times, stressing about the job market or stuck for new ideas.

My advice: Get outside! Go roam around your local community. Find some local networking events to attend or go to your city's chamber of commerce luncheons.  If you are inside on the computer all day your competition is going to beat you every time. You are competing for a job against some pretty smart and networked people out there. Get out and make some new personal contacts and increase your networking circle.

The old saying: "It's not what you know, It's who you know" is true. People will refer you into their company and help you get a job if they know you. This is your major advantage! Who do you know? Who are your former work colleagues? Your old bosses? Good friends in the community? Go out and have lunch with them today then get your schedule booked up with meetings and local events.

Your job leads will increase tremendously but remember, you have to ASK for their help. Most everyone will want to help you find new job leads and will gladly share their knowledge with you.
