Profile: Southwest Florida Water Management District

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is an environmental and resource protection agency committed to managing Florida’s water and water-related resources for its ever-growing population.

District activities include issuing permits for various water use activities; research, restoration and preservation; acquisition of lands for preservation of vital water resources; mapping, classification of wetlands; and public education programs.

With locations in Brooksville, Tampa, Bartow and Sarasota, staff members are responsible for managing ground and surface water supplies in all or part of 16 counties in west central Florida.
