POSITION SUMMARY:
The senior Tech Comm specialist is a leader within the Technical Communications department. He or she develops various user manuals, online help systems, and release notes and has advanced writing skills, industry tools knowledge, product knowledge, and project management experience. He or she works closely with the Team Lead and Manager to clarify department issues, concerns, and successes and takes a leadership role in maintaining department standards, processes, templates, etc. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Creates user manuals, online help systems, and release notes for the assigned product team(s). Maintains knowledge of current information development principles, theories, and concepts. Actively applies them to his/her work, department discussions, and when mentoring other writers on the team. Coordinates interviews with subject matter experts from product teams, attends trainings, and reads specifications and other technical materials/activities as necessary to learn the products of the company. Maintains advanced knowledge of the products. Applies knowledge to ensure the accuracy and completeness of published and internally circulated documentation. Learns and maintains an advanced knowledge of the tools and applications used in the Technical Communications industry, which include word processing, desktop publishing, and help authoring applications. Self manages his/her work in terms of determining objectives, planning activities, and tracking progress. Assigned projects are moderate to large in scope and complexity. Contributes to department discussions. Contributes to and takes a leadership role in the creation and maintenance of department standards, processes, templates, etc. Identifies and proposes solutions for potential roadblocks in the department. Assists in leading and developing strategic departmental and corporate objectives of the Technical Communications department. Complies with all approved procedures, directives, and guidelines. Understands department and company initiatives. Develops solutions to problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Solutions are inline with department policies, objectives, and goals. Performs other duties as assigned. Travel Required: Minimal travel is required for this position. Skills / Requirements
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education Required: A Bachelor's degree in English/Technical Writing. Relevant experience may be substituted for degree. Experience Required: Proven experience in the technical communications field. Previous experience documenting software applications including user documentation and implementation documentation. Skills Required: Must have advanced writing skills, industry tools knowledge, product knowledge, and project management experience. Must have the ability to define priorities and respond accordingly in a rapidly changing environment.
