Jobing Description
Position Summary: Uses automated system and telephone to contact delinquent members to make payment arrangements to preserve and safeguard the assets of the Credit Union from unnecessary losses. Conduct skip-tracing when required. Perform mathematical calculations.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • Consistently demonstrates a courteous, tactful and professional approach in dealing with members and internal customers in accordance with established customer service standards. Demonstrates concern and respect for others in all interactions, and inspire their trust.
  • Communicates a sense of urgency to the debtor to pay the delinquent loan up to date. Emphasize the need for a specific date the account will be cured in order to prevent the loan from aging further.
  • Ensure that all work (i.e., phone calls, promises to pay, updates, requests, etc.) is documented in our system, using the correct action and response codes the day the action occurs, to maintain accurate records on all accounts. Ensure that future follow-up dates are maintained on all accounts, to provide maximum coverage of their delinquent queue assignment and guarantee that there are no accounts with follow up dates that have past.
  • Make outbound (using an automated system or manually) and receive inbound phone calls on delinquent accounts.
  • Collect on multiple accounts simultaneously.
  • Recommend accounts for extensions and consolidations when appropriate.
  • Send appropriate collection letters according to department guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of the fair debt collection practice act.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple job tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including PC, multi-line phone, etc.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Perform basic skip tracing techniques, i.e. experian, accruing and directory assistance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Skills / Requirements
    Qualifications: The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Educational Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent.

    Experience: 6 months -1 year related experience and/or training.

    Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in small group situations to members and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interest.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out single one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.

    Problem Solving: Work involves no routine assignments, which requires the selection of standard procedures from among several that apply to the job. Problems are easily recognized and solved with prescribed solutions.

    Effect of Decisions: Decisions typically affect only the incumbent's own position or others doing similar work.

    Computer Skills: A good working knowledge of Word, and Windows 2000. Some experience with Excel preferred.
