Job: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist on duty and general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, incumbent must work with the guidance of the senior pharmacy technician.

Duties to be performed at the Ruskin Health Center.
1. Receive, read, and properly prepare typed prescription labels in English or Spanish using a computer or typewriter.
2. Properly identify medication from stock shelves and count out proper quantity as ordered and/or as outlined in Pharmacy SOP.
3. With close supervision of the pharmacist in counseling patients and maintenance of education literature.
4. Verify eligibility for Medicaid, Public Assistance, Workers Compensation, and other third party payers, calculating cost for other third party payers, calculating costs for other than minimal fee patients.
5. Pull and replace filed prescriptions needing refill, and accomplish other filing as needed.
6. Answer phone, properly responding to questions from physicians, nurses, and patients that are strictly routine in nature, referring other inquiries to the Pharmacist as appropriate.
7. Under the guidance of an experienced pharmacy technician, conduct Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities, keep a record of numerous statistical data, ensure availability of pharmaceuticals by alerting Pharmacist to potential out-of-stock and increased usage situations, help stock shelves checking expiration dates and quantities on hand.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Six months of on-the-job training in a retail or hospital pharmacy.
3. Ability to type accurately at 35 WPM.
4. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
5. Ability to do basic Pharmaceutical math quickly and accurately.
6. High school and/or college courses in human physiology and chemistry preferred.
7. Experience preparing correct pharmaceutical labels using Pharmacy computer is preferred.
