Job Description

With preliminary direction from a licensed architect, assist in predesign and all phases of healthcare, large-scale corporate/commercial, institutional, and science + technology projects, including new construction, renovation, interiors, site planning and tenant improvement; coordinate with the client change management program to ready staff for large moves and changes within a work program to include leading staff town halls, writing and distributing team communications, monitoring and communicating protocol updates; meet with client representatives for presentations and workshops, analysis of goals and needs, develop programmed space sheets, narrative summaries, room data sheets, adjacency diagrams, graphic content and prepare final developed project program document; apply own judgement, analysis and spreadsheet skills to accurately and precisely develop programs, space plans, feasibility studies, and code analysis/reviews; review and update program documentation in excel based on client program; provide detailed analysis of large-scale multi-department program documentation; provide detailed space planning utilizing stacking and blocking skills and techniques to develop the program for large scale multi-department program based on clients' functional and spatial requirements; review existing conditions within a workplace to determine feasibility of programmed changes; develop site analysis studies requiring site photography, code research, base drawings and diagrams; apply advanced knowledge of local building, fire codes and accessibility codes and research local, domestic and international building codes and regulations to provide code review of space plans to determine feasibility; coordinate team in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems; utilize knowledge of construction systems and develop documents including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details using 2D/3D modeling using Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Bluebeam, and related BIM, 2D and 3D modeling software; make corrections as indicated by Sr. Project Architect and Project Manager to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents; perform periodic quality assurance and quality control checks throughout the construction documentation phase; produce renderings for client presentations using Photoshop, Illustrator CS5, Rhinoceros 5, Grasshopper, Artlantis Studio 4, Lumion, and InDesign; coordinate with consultants including civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecom, security, structural, landscape, lighting, code, envelope, signage, acoustic and workplace to incorporate building systems into architectural designs; apply architectural principles to review all project documentation and processes; set up project team software parameters and manages standards; utilize knowledge of sustainable design principles to incorporate high performance design in all project phases; review shop drawings provided by the general contractor; process general contractor's requests for information (RFI’s), submittals and change order requests; conduct site visits, field observation and meet with stakeholders to review the progress of construction; provide thorough documentation of all observations and document updates; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; coordinate project data and transmission and all electronic communication using project information management software; work with the Design Technology Manager (DTM) to coordinate technology/software programs and upgrades and assist in implementation throughout the local office; assist project managers and project architects with managing drawing standards and setting up project team software parameters and manual.

Required Experience

Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Architecture (5 year) or foreign equivalent plus 1 year of experience to include assisting in predesign and all phases of commercial projects, including new construction, renovation, interiors, site planning and tenant improvement; meeting with clients for presentations, analysis of goals and needs, developing programmed graphic content, and preparing project document; applying own judgement, analysis and spreadsheet skills to accurately and precisely develop space plans, feasibility studies, and code analysis/reviews; providing detailed analysis of large-scale multi-department program documentation; providing detailed space planning utilizing stacking and blocking skills and techniques to develop the program for large scale multi-department program based on clients' functional and spatial requirements; reviewing existing conditions within a workplace to determine feasibility of programmed changes; developing site analysis studies requiring site photography, code research, base drawings and diagrams; applying advanced knowledge of local building codes and research local, domestic and international building codes and regulations to provide code review of space plans to determine feasibility; coordinating team in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems; utilizing knowledge of construction systems and developed documents including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details using 2D/3D modeling using Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, and related BIM, 2D and 3D modeling software; making corrections as indicated by Sr. Project Architect and Project Manager to in-progress sets of design development and construction documents; performing periodic quality assurance and quality control checks throughout the construction documentation phase; producing renderings for client presentations using Photoshop, Illustrator CS5, Rhinoceros 5, Grasshopper, Artlantis Studio 4, Lumion, and InDesign; coordinating with consultants including civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural to incorporate building systems into architectural designs; applying architectural principles to review all project documentation and processes; setting up project team software parameters and managing standards; utilizing knowledge of sustainable design principles to incorporate high performance design in all project phases; conducting site visits, field observation and meeting with stakeholders to review the progress of construction; providing thorough documentation of all observations and documenting updates; performing necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; coordinating project data and transmission and all electronic communication using project information management software; assisting project managers and project architects with managing drawing standards and setting up project team software parameters and manual.
